In order to expedite emissions testing and to eliminate errors in the transcription of vehicle data, the Department of Motor Vehicles and many state emission facilities are furnishing barcode labels or documents to vehicle owners at the time of registration or at the time of emissions inspections. The labels contain vehicle identification numbers, emission testing results and other vehicle-specific information, to be determined by the department or facility.
